Celebrating 70 years of service

Celebrating 70 years of service

Everyone's talking about it – this week marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.

Rather than get all regal on you (we know Motels aren’t synonymous with royalty, although that sounds like an interesting concept?!) we thought we’d look back and see what else will be celebrating its 70th anniversary.

Amongst other iconic events that we found interesting, from Corvettes to Colour TVs, we discovered that the Vagabond Motel in Miami opened it's doors as a motel, restaurant & lounge at the time of the Queen's coronation. It quickly gained a reputation as a hangout for Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and the rest of the Rat Pack. The lights were brilliant and bright, an integral part of the MiMo movement led by prominent architect Robert Swartburg.

The Vagabond maintained a legendary yet laid-back feel and is a place for anyone to have a good time.Fast-forward several decades to the present and the Vagabond is still open. A full property-wide restoration has given its retro-luxe interiors a new look while managing to remain true to its past with authentic touches and little details that make a big difference.

This era of design certainly had a lasting impression that's definitely worth celebrating. What is happening now that might be celebrated in 70 years?
